The Red Barn - Olympia Stadium

Olympia Stadium, 'The Old Red Barn' was the original hockey arena built for Detroit Red Wings hockey. It was the largest rink in the United States when it opened in Detroit in 1927. For many years, until its demolition in 1986 it was the center for not only hockey, many other sports and entertainment events in Detroit. Legends such as Joe Louis, Elvis Presley, Sonya Henie, the Harlem Globetrotters, and the Beatles performed here. Taken in the spring of 1963, this historical art print shows the marquee advertising the Stanley Cup Finals, along with Detroit wrestling legend Dick The Bruiser vs. Detroit's Alex Karras.
