Bob-Lo Boat Columbia

The Bob-Lo boat steamship Columbia heading to Bob-Lo Island. The steamer Columbia was built in 1902 and would hold over 2500 passengers. On the 2nd floor was the dance floor. Many moonlight cruises were enjoyed listening and dancing to the sounds of Big Bands, and in later years more contemporary music filled the air. The 3rd floor of the Columbia was the beer garden. As times changed, both Bob-Lo Island itself as well as the steamers that carried their passengers there were sold, ending an era in the history of Detroit.
