JULY 31, 2012 -- Like us, you might’ve thought the local media had told the story of Rodriguez back in 2009. Think again! The national spotlight has arrived to tell it once again. Instead of through the ink of the alternative weekly circuit, one of Detroit’s finest (yet mysteriously forgotten up until a few years ago) musical exports is hitting the big screen thanks to Swedish documentary filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul. “Searching For Sugar Man” played at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak last night and will screen at the Traverse City Film Festival on August 10.
While an official Detroit premiere has yet to emerge, the people are definitely speaking up about what could turn into one of the bigger documentaries of 2012. At Rotten Tomatoes, it’s rocking a 94%. Watch the trailer below. | PD
