JUNE 20, 2012 -- Over the past 12 weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of watching our social media feeds fill up with healthy facts via our friends and local entrepreneurs Liz Blondy (Canine To Five) & Joe Posch (Hugh -- opening soon!). We’ve witnessed their successes and struggles as well as watch their knowledge expand about what’s the best route to a nutritional, healthy lifestyle.

We wondered, “What is spurring a health revolution among our busy friends?”

As anyone who owns a small business can tell you, it’s rarely a 9-to-5 gig. And finding the time to balance work, business and life — plus fitness and a sensible diet — seems impossible to manage. We dug a bit deeper and found out that Liz and Joe were finding the time with the help of True Body Fitness in the Corktown area of Detroit. We remember when this newcomer hit small business scene of the Motor City back in early 2011. We were even more excited when we realized owner Kimo Frederickson was utilizing the social media accounts of local business owners and opinion leaders to promote his business through the True Body Fitness Challenge. The fact that Kimo is so generous with his time, facilities and resources is simply astonishing.

Set over 12 weeks, the True Body Fitness Challenge takes three teams (made up of two people each) representing three local businesses. This time around, it’s Velocity Cow (an amazing Detroit-based video production company that we adore), the Dirty Trick (one of our favorite downtown bars) and — you guessed it — yours truly.

Pure Detroit will be sending two reps — Ryan and Kevin — through the True Body Fitness Challenge ringer. All aspects of healthy living are put on blast — one-on-one training sessions with owner Kimo each week; weekly fitness classes ranging from yoga to pilates and spinning; weekly consultations with a health consultant (thanks to health coach Serene Arena); and tons and tons of support to get out and get ourselves healthy.

Ryan and Kevin will be utilizing the Pure Detroit Facebook (facebook.com/puredetroit) and Twitter (twitter.com/puredetroit313) accounts -- as well as their personal accounts -- to bring everyone along on their experience while being mindful of not annoying or boring anyone to death. You can also keep up on Team Pure Detroit through weekly blogs over at True Body Fitness’ website. [PD]
