JUNE 9, 2012 -- Detroit-based photographer Brian Day put together an impressive collection of photographs of Detroit firefighters between 2009 and this year. The black-and-white shots are nothing short of dramatic and powerful, offering a view of the frontline that Detroit firefighters see every day. You can view a host of his work over at CNN.

The attention focused on the photographs is no surprise as the city has placed cut backs on the Detroit Fire Department (although a large chunk of those jobs seem to be preserved for now).
